KISS Principle

Wednesday, February 24, 2010 Posted by pacapao

You have probably heard about the KISS principle, it simply means Keep It Simple Stupid. Nothing is farther from the truth when it comes to writing books. It is especially true for How to style books and certainly anything has to do with training. The general run besides simplicity is to write for the grade eight to grade ten levels for all audiences. When I was doing writing for a large corporation, the materials were to be read by the top executives. I had to be particularly careful to get to the point and put it in simple language. It was not because the executives could not read, it was they did not have time to absorb more than a few lines and get the point of the communication.

Most people do not take time to absorb technical writing unless it is part of their job or they are in the world of academics. I like to find books that are written so anyone can understand what is being said and if it is a training manual, they will be able to put the topic to immediate use. When you write, find out who your audience is and then try to write for that audience. Leave your “methodologies” out of the text unless someone else is doing a research project with you and you want them to know you have a large technical vocabulary.

Any book should flow from one topic to another. Even chapters should make some sense for order. Often books are dealing with complex subjects that need to be broken down in a manner than is continuous. The chapters in this book were written as twenty separate areas and although some of them are related, most are not. This was done by design.

The Complete Illustrated Kama Sutra Very good book……. – Khalid I. Paden – Chicago, Illinois
It is a good book, and well written. It also seems to strike up conversations from people who see you reading it. :-D
I thought this book lived up to its description. The illustrations were many, and artistic. Some of the ancient rituals made me chuckle. It was a very interesting read if you kept it in its historical perspective. If you’re looking for porn, this is not your book. : A fully illustrated Kama Sutra from the extraordinary and rare art collection of Lance Dane

• The first complete translation to illustrate all 64 sexual postures described in the Kama Sutra • Includes 250 rare images • Composed by one of the world’s foremost scholars of the Kama Sutra and Indian art

The erotic sentiments described in the Hindu love classic the Kama Sutra constitute the most famous work on sex ever created. Written almost 2,000 years ago, the Kama Sutra deals with all aspects of sexual life, including the principles and techniques of sexual pleasure and how to best achieve ecstatic expression of life’s beauty.

In this complete and illustrated guide Lance Dane accompanies the Kama Sutra text with 250 illustrations and great works of art that encompass coins, palm leaf manuscripts, sculptures, ancient toys, jewelry, architecture, ivory combs, birch bark, cloth, paintings, frescoes, and scrolls. Gathered from museums and private collections around the world-as well as the author’s own collection of over 300,000 photographs-these rare images clearly illustrate all 64 sexual positions and the erotic instructions set forth in the Kama Sutra. The result is a dazzling and sensuous reading experience through which the teachings of the Kama Sutra spring to life. The Complete Illustrated Kama Sutra

The Karma Sutra: Sex, Love, and Relationship Zen

Saturday, February 20, 2010 Posted by pacapao

The Karma Sutra: Sex, Love, and Relationship Zen Best read in years! – FlyToTheSky –
A book that every woman, in search of a mature and long lasting relationship, has to read! Clear, honest and precise. Shelly’s wit and wisdom are priceless!!! (I’m still giggling :)
For those of us who have read the other books from Shelly Wu, this is an excellent addition to an already enlightening collection of books on Chinese astrology and one’s intimate life. It answers questions on everyone’s mind, such as what are the blocks and obstacles to having a happy, healthy relationship, how karma can affect our relationships, affirmations that do work(I’ve found them very helpful). There is also a very fun chapter called,Just For Fun, which contains a very interesting KKRS, or Karmic Keepers or Kickers Rating System, which, as indicated, gives you an idea about your relationship. As usual, Shelly provides us with a wonderful book, which leaves us with a feeling of having read this book and walking away a little more informed. If you have any interest in knowing how Karma affects our past and present, if you want to have a more fulfilling relationship, more understanding regarding your partner, this book will not disappoint. : Tabloid media and “reality” programming have deadened many of us to the possibility of “soul partnerships”–relationships of substance and depth, spiritual antidotes to the mindless hook-ups that seem to pepper magazines and TV shows. But The Karma Sutra, a relationship-changing (and life-transforming) book, will awaken hope and help you take control of your love life.

Never one of the “beautiful people” herself, celebrity astrologer and metaphysical teacher Shelly Wu takes you on a spiritually informative tour through the ups and downs, dysfunctions, and triumphs of modern relationships. With this book, you can create the kind of partnership of which you’ve always dreamed. Learn how to remove the ties, pacts, and negative thinking that keep you captive, and discover an exhilarating world of “love karmic style.”

In The Karma Sutra, Wu reveals the hidden spiritual dynamics that occur within our relationships, from brief affairs to lifetime commitments. She offers practical solutions to common relationship traps and dilemmas, from the truly spiritual to the truly dismal. And she suggests a method to the madness of maneuvering through the obsessions, attractions, repulsions, and compulsions of your love life.

You will learn:

* How to attract and create joyful partnerships of depth and purpose.

* How to recognize your soulmates.

* Why all relationships are a blank slate on which the hand of the universe will write.

Most importantly, once you confront the karma you’ve created–the “effects” you’ve gotten from previous “causes”–you will become a magnet for a partner who thinks as you do. Then you can find a true soul partner who really “gets it”…and “gets” you. The Karma Sutra: Sex, Love, and Relationship Zen

What to Do When You Worry Too Much: A Kid’s Guide to Overcoming Anxiety (What to Do Guides for Kids)

Sunday, February 7, 2010 Posted by pacapao

What to Do When You Worry Too Much: A Kid’s Guide to Overcoming Anxiety (What to Do Guides for Kids) This book can help provide a child with information and strategies to reduce anxiety.

The author first provides the child with reassuring insight as to why “worrying” sometimes becomes problematic for a person. The author then proceeds to outline a very child-friendly cognitive-behavioral plan for overcoming anxiety.

At our child and family counseling clinic, we use cognitive-behavioral therapy as one component of treatment, and we often use this book as an adjunct to therapy. For example, we might ask that the child and parent read the book together as a way to review some of the techniques that the child has learned and practiced in therapy. Taken home, the book serves as a concrete reminder of strategies to be used in daily life. I have had parents tell me that, after termination of therapy, their children ask to periodically read this book and do the exercises; some children have even lent the book to friends.

I believe that this book would also be good as a stand-alone book for parents to purchase for use with their own children. I would recommend that the parent and child read the book together, one section at a time, giving the child time between sections to reflect on the information and practice the recommended strategies. Keep in mind that just reading it will often not be sufficient; usually the parent will have to see that the strategies are actually used in day-to-day life, when and where they are needed. If the parent has difficulty doing this, then they might want to seek professional help, but this book will definitely give them a good start. : What to Do When You Worry Too Much is an interactive self-help book designed to guide 6-12 year olds and their parents through the cognitive-behavioral techniques most often used in the treatment of generalized anxiety. Metaphors and humorous illustrations make difficult concepts easy to understand, while prompts to draw and write help children to master new skills related to reducing anxiety. Engaging, encouraging, and easy to follow, this book educates, motivates, and empowers children to work towards change. Includes a note to parents by psychologist and author Dawn Huebner, Ph.D.
